Pitching

We had our first umpire clinic and one of the things I requested is that we adhere to the rule book a little better in regards to pitching. I understand that umpires strike zones will vary in regards to height and speed but one place we'll be putting an emphasis on in 2009 is the proper pause.

Only a few of you walk the box front to back or side to side but we will be making an added effort to call...

Without a doubt my least favorite part of this job. It's the one that everybody seems to think is life and death and without a doubt causes the most friction between you and I and the most message board fodder.

Travel

USSSA rules say that if traveling out of state the director of that tournament must contact me for approval so that you can enter. You'll find that many fail to do so, that doesn't relieve you of your responsibility.

I require that you contact me for approval for all out of state travel prior to the event and that you have your roster online. You must of course be registered with USSSA.

Rosters

USSSA provides a means to keep your roster up to date online. We encourage all teams participating in the program to do so. It's an easy system to use, makes things really transparent for everybody involved and makes entering tournaments a breeze. World Tournaments

You can earn a paid World Berth in the following ways:

Win an NIT or have it passed down to you
Win the State Tournament or have it passed down to you (to fifth place)
Finish top two at a National or have it passed down to you

You can earn an unpaid World Berth in the following ways:

Earn 1000 USSSA points by the deadline
Have a State Tournament Berth passed down to you below...

National Tournaments

All Mens and Womens teams seeking to advance to Worlds must play in their respective National Tournament. You can play in up to three and must play in at least one in class. If the tournament fails to play, you are considered to have met the requirement if canceled.

State Tournaments

We believe that USSSA State Tournaments are for USSSA teams. As such we require that you qualify for these events.

Mens teams can qualify by

Winning an event with less than 12 teams
Finishing in the top 25% of a tournament with 12 or more teams

Teams qualifying in this manner must have played a minimum of six(6) in state USSSA events

Due to the size of these events we are offer them where field space dictates. Outside of your classifications State Tournament, these are our premier events and we encourage you to check them out. NITs are your best bet to earn a paid World Berth and generally provide the best competition to measure your team against.

Points are determined by the type of event being played and by who is playing, not by the classification listed for the tournament. We list upper and Conference Colorado events as B. Divisions/ Schedule

I frequently get questions on why we play where we do. We schedule events where they sanction their leagues, really that's all there is to it. We gave Clement/ Schaeffer a try last year because you asked for it scheduling seven events there. We ended up canceling four due to lack of participation. Conduct/ Ejections/ Suspensions

Teams failing to withdraw before the deadline and then failing to show up and play will be suspended until they pay the no show/ forfeit fee of 125.00. The entire roster will be suspended, not just the manager. Tournaments have costs associated with them and once we bracket those costs are fixed.

Day of Tournament

Team managers are responsible for arriving in a timely manner to conduct business before play. This includes turning in a completed roster and all fees due for that day. RMUSSSA recommends that managers arrive 30 minutes before their first scheduled game.

Tournament entry fees have been set at:

275.00 for all 55 minute time limit events
300.00 for all 70 minute time limit events

2009 Changes and Points of Emphasis

Roster rules have been modified so that if you have a roster of more than 16 players at the time you freeze, you can now use drops to 'create' adds. In the past if you had 17 or more players for instance you lost an add for each one of those players and you couldn't drop a player to pick one up and create a spot.
